My first emotional success in pottery, this is the first piece that I really felt was a useful item and it continues to inspire me today.
This was the first pushed form I did. I was going after a quilted look at first, but then found this wavey inspiration in it and went for a deep ocean theme. Its from there a Kraken showed up in the design.
Painted with a mix of green, black, and blue underglazes to build the deep ocean background, with a grey (that darkened too much) for the tenticals of demise.
It was at this point that I messed up my medalian by working with it while it was too wet.
The glaze was new to me as well, and I have no idea how it got such a varied outcome in sheen. Ranging from a tactile and rough matte finish to a smooth semi-luster. Wont lie, kinda love it.
